Poi Dog Lessons

2020  |  2 mins  |  English

Disturbed by the racism against Asian Americans during the COVID-19 pandemic, Honolulu Theatre for Youth company actor Maki‘ilei Ishihara taps into her mixed Asian Pacific heritage to co-produce an animated video poem titled “Poi Dog,” which celebrates cultural identity and underscores the need to take care of one another.

This micro-documentary was created for the Asian American Documentary Network's series "Asian Americans in the Time of the Coronavirus" to document the lives of Asian Americans during the pandemic.
